Seedling Growing Through Red Slime Mold?

    I'm not sure what this is but it looks like it may be a slime mold. The seedling growing through it is pretty interesting.

    Does anyone know which species is the following?

    Trichia decipiens, maybe? In any case, the soils beneath it will be far richer than the soils surrounding it, so I'm not surprised that the seedling has pushed up so far. Great photo, btw!

    Thanks, it was pretty much the only seedling around. The ground is pretty poor so it makes sense that things do best on the organic material.

    Did you get any more images of this as it grew? I would love to see what came out of that.
